2006 A&M Golf Invitational

The 8th Allen & Major Invitational Golf Tournament was held September 18, 2006 at the Pocasset Golf Club in Bourne, MA. Weather was great for the 95 golfers who attended. As A&M has done in the past, all funds raised during this tournament by the way of raffles, auctions or contributions were donated to the New England Center for Children. The focus of this school, winner of the U.S. Department of Education's 2000 National Award For Model Professional Development, has been to provide state-of-the-art education and individualism treatment with care and respect for children diagnosed with autism, learning disabilities, language delays, mental retardation, behavioral disorders and other disabilities.
After some practice swings on the driving range, players enjoyed a delicious buffet luncheon. Although fog had loomed over the course for the majority of the morning, just as the players were making their way to their carts, the sun made its way out - making for some beautiful golf weather. Once the foursomes got together, they dispatched to their hole assignments and the fun began.
Midway through the outing cheers could be heard from hole #15. David Begelfer of NAIOP sunk a "hole in one"!....only the second in A&M's tournament history.
As the golfers made their way through the course, they would find their way to hole #12 - known as a "Major Challenge". Here, Jim Major would wager with each golfer on the "closest to the pin" shot. Unlike past tournaments, many golfers were successful on the "Major Challenge". We'll have to see if Jim's luck improves next year.
By 5:30pm the foursomes began to trickle into the clubhouse and handed in their score cards. A&M's tournament staff and "non-golfer" friends greeted players as they returned. Everyone enjoyed cocktails on the deck overlooking the course.
One hundred and ten guests enjoyed a scrumptious dinner complete with awards presentations to the tournament winners. "Hole in One" golfer David Begelfer was awarded a gift certificate to the Pocassett Golf Club for a round of golf for himself and three guests.
The evening wrapped up with the drawing for the raffle tickets sold throughout the day. The grand prize, a 27" Slim Fit TV was won by David Bellveau of NDC Development Associates.
